With a vast outdoor classroom at our fingertips, the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy team members are ambassadors to each resident and guest, introducing them to this landscape in ways large and small, structured and informal. Tours, classes and workshops, programs, research and field trips are all available to facilitate this environmental learning process.

Brown Bag Lunch: Sea Turtles

There are seven species of sea turtle in the world, and four of them have been documented off the coast of South Carolina.  Join Lydia Moore, Conservancy Research and Education Manager, as she discusses the life history of these amazing reptiles and what we can do to protect them from the threats they face.  During the talk, the Conservancy Educator, Aaron Palmieri, will provide an interactive intermission where we will see who can make it from an egg to adulthood!

Explore PBC: A Plant’s Guide to Surviving the Maritime Forest

Meet at the Conservancy Classroom

To us, the maritime forest looks lush, serene, and almost tropical, but to a plant, survival in this ecosystem is difficult. Join Conservancy Biologist, Lydia Moore, as we explore what makes a maritime forest unique and the adaptations plants have to cope with harsh conditions.

Who is ready to join the Conservancy in a week of ecological fun! Campers who join us will learn about plants, animals, and the environment through games, crafts, and wildlife interactions.

Ecotour with Captain Amber

Meet at Wilson Village Chapel Dock

Captain Amber has spent her life in and along the May River, and her ecotours highlight the love and knowledge she holds for the salt marsh. Join us as we explore the May River and other tidal estuaries while Captain Amber teaches us about the creatures that call these waters home.

$65 fee.

Brown Bag Lunch: Dolphins

Conservancy Classroom or Online

With 150 local, full-time residents in Beaufort County, the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin is one of the most common oceanic species seen in our area. Dolphins are mammals and are noted for their intelligence and learning abilities, which means you’ve likely seen them playing or feeding in the May River. Join Cassie Beato, the Montage Naturalist, as she guides us through the life cycle and anatomy of bottlenose dolphins as well as the famous feeding method, strand feeding, which is unique to the Lowcountry.
